Digvesh Rathi set to continue ‘notebook celebration’ in IPL 2026 despite past penalties and LSG Skipper Rishabh Pant’s warning

The Indian Premier League 2026 season is expected to bring excitement and drama. One player who is already in the spotlight is Digvesh Rathi. The Lucknow Super Giants spinner impressed last season with his bowling. He picked up 14 wickets in 13 matches and played a key role for his team.

However, it was not just his performance that caught attention. His aggressive “notebook celebration” became a major talking point. Rathi often used it to send off batters. This led to multiple penalties from the IPL Governing Council. He was fined several times and even faced a one-match suspension.

Despite this, Digvesh Rathi has made it clear that he will not stop celebrating. “I didn’t intend to disrespect anyone then, and neither do I want to now. But nobody can stop me from celebrating. If a batter can celebrate after scoring a hundred by putting their helmet on top of their bat and so on, then I can celebrate too,” Rathi told ESPNcricinfo.

He also has strong backing from captain Rishabh Pant and coach Justin Langer. “The only thing Rishabh bhai and the management have told me is ‘you continue being your most authentic self, but just don’t get banned’,” he added.

Rathi had collected five demerit points last season under the IPL Code of Conduct. Four points lead to a suspension. These points remain active for 36 months. This means he must stay careful in IPL 2026.

The spinner was also involved in heated moments. He had an on-field argument with Abhishek Sharma and another clash with Nitish Rana in the Delhi Premier League.

Now, all eyes will be on Rathi as Lucknow begin their campaign against the Delhi Capitals.
