Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has strongly criticized Mohammad Amir for his controversial remarks about Abhishek Sharma during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Amir recently sparked debate in the cricket world after calling Abhishek “nothing but a slogger.” He also predicted that the India national cricket team would fail to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
Kaif believes such comments are made only to attract attention. According to him, they are not based on proper cricket analysis. The former Indian batter said people should not give too much importance to such statements.
“Did Amir really not know that India would reach the semifinals? Of course, he knew that the defending champions would make it. But they say these things because it becomes news. We must not give them importance. There is no need for us to come down to their level and reply,” he said on his YouTube channel on the eve of the second semi-final clash between India and England.
Mohammed Kaif Reminds Fans of Pakistan’s Loss to USA
Mohammed Kaif also questioned Mohammed Amir’s cricketing record. He referred to a match during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 where Pakistan national cricket team lost to the United States national cricket team.
During the Super Over of that match, Amir bowled several wides and struggled to control the pressure. Kaif pointed out that Amir could not stop the USA batters in that crucial moment.
“The loss they faced against the USA in 2024 — it was the same bowler who was responsible. In that over, he conceded only one boundary, but bowled too many wides. His balls did not even land on the stumps. Who got scared against that USA team and made his side lose the game? I don’t have to say more,” Kaif said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan once again failed to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage in 2024 and reached the Super 8 stage this year.
For a team with such a rich cricket history, many fans believe Pakistan should be challenging for the title more often.
