Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be back in action as BCCI announces Afghanistan’s Tour of India 2026 with One-Off Test and Three ODIs

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for Afghanistan’s tour of India in June 2026. Team India will play one Test match and three One Day Internationals against Afghanistan. The series will begin with a red-ball match before moving to white-ball cricket.

The one-off Test will be played from June 6 to 10 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. This will be the first Test match at the venue. It is an important moment for the stadium and for Punjab cricket fans.

India and Afghanistan Set for Competitive Series

After the Test match, the teams will play three ODIs. The first ODI will take place in Dharamsala on June 14. The second match will be played in Lucknow on June 17. The third and final ODI will be held in Chennai on June 20. All ODI matches will begin at 1:30 PM IST.

India are one of the strongest teams in world cricket. They are the current T20 World Cup champions and won the Champions Trophy last year. The Men in Blue recently defeated the West Indies on March 1 to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup. They are aiming to defend their title successfully.

Afghanistan, however, had a tough T20 World Cup campaign this year. They reached the semi-final in 2024 but were knocked out in the group stage this time after losing to New Zealand and South Africa.

In ODI cricket, India and Afghanistan have played four matches. India have won three games, while one match ended in a tie. In Test cricket, both teams have met only once. In 2018, India defeated Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs in Bengaluru.

The upcoming series will give Afghanistan another chance to challenge India in Indian conditions.
