Abhishek Sharma doubtful for Namibia clash after hospital admission in Delhi

India opener Abhishek Sharma is under medical observation ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match against Namibia. The match will be played on Thursday, February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The left-handed batter is suffering from a stomach infection.

Reports say Abhishek has been in hospital for the last few days. The team management is waiting for his medical reports. His availability for the match remains uncertain.

A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on his health. The officials are monitoring his recovery closely. Doctors are conducting tests to identify the exact issue.

“Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now,” a BCCI source said, as quoted by The Hindu.

India vs Pakistan game in focus

Abhishek Sharma was earlier seen with the Indian squad at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence. The team had a dinner gathering on February 8. However, he left the function early due to discomfort.

The infection is not believed to be serious. However, rest is being advised. Missing the Namibia game could help him recover fully. India next face Pakistan on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Abhishek has a good record against Pakistan in T20 Internationals. He has played three matches against them since his debut in 2024. All those games came in the 2025 Asia Cup, where he was Player of the Tournament.

In those three innings, he scored 110 runs. He averaged 36.66 and had a strike rate close to 190. His best score was 74. The team hopes he regains fitness in time for the high-profile clash.
