West Indies Collapse for 27 vs Australia; Registers Second-Lowest Total in Test Cricket History

The West Indies cricket team hit a new low in their Test history. They were bowled out for just 27 runs in the second innings of the third Test against Australia. This happened at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

The West Indies were chasing 204 runs to win. But they failed badly. The Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland were too good for them. Starc was unstoppable. He took 6 wickets for just 9 runs in 7.3 overs. He also created a record by picking up the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history in just 15 balls.

Boland, who replaced spinner Nathan Lyon, also made history, becoming 10th Australian to take a hat-trick in Test cricket.

Top 5 Lowest Totals in Test Cricket History

This score of 27 is now the lowest Test total ever for the West Indies. It is also the second-lowest score by any team in the history of Test cricket.

Only New Zealand have done worse. They were bowled out for 26 against England in Auckland in 1955.

Here are the five lowest Test scores:

  • New Zealand – 26 vs England (1955)

  • West Indies – 27 vs Australia (2025)

  • South Africa – 30 vs England (1896)

  • South Africa – 30 vs England (1924)

  • South Africa – 35 vs England (1899)

The West Indies innings lasted only 14.3 overs. Justin Greaves was the only player to score in double digits with 11 runs off 24 balls.

Seven batters got out for a duck. Even their total of 27 included six leg byes. This heavy defeat means Australia won the three-match Test series 3-0.

West Indies will next play a two-Test series in India this October. The matches will be held in Ahmedabad and Delhi. After this collapse, big changes are expected in the team. The West Indies will need to regroup and improve quickly.
