West Indies Announces their squad for the first test match against India

The West Indies cricket team has recently made headlines after failing to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for the first time in the team’s history in the tournament. Naturally, the team is under pressure to perform well in their upcoming games against India’s tour of the West Indies.

The teams will play 2 test matches, 3 ODI matches and five T20I matches across various venues in the West Indies and the last two matches in the USA. West Indies will also look to make a good impact on the game before the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in their home.

Ahead of the series with India, the West Indies have recently announced their 13-man squad to play their first test match against India from 12-16 July 2023, at Windsor Park, Dominica.

“We were very impressed with the approach to batsmanship of McKenzie and Athanaze on the recent ‘A’ Team tour of Bangladesh. These are two young players who got good scores and played with great maturity, and we believe they deserve an opportunity. We are without Motie, who is doing his rehabilitation, and this has created an opportunity for Warrican and Cornwall in the spin bowling department. They have both played at Test match level before and are capable of doing the job,” said the West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes.
