The Indian cricket team’s captain Rohit Sharma believes that the people have only made the Asia Cup tournament about India and Pakistan, however, no team is less and everybody has a chance to win and any completing participant can win the tournament.
Rohit Sharma talked about how Sri Lanka performed exceedingly well which ultimately lead to them being victorious in the previous season of the Asia Cup, which was played in the T20 format in 2022. Rohit also talked about how the Asia Cup assesses a Team’s Skill under pressure and is a good opportunity before the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2023.
Rohit Sharma on Asia Cup 2023
“We shouldn’t say the Asia Cup is between India and Pakistan – there are other teams as well. Last year Sri Lanka won the tournament, they played good cricket. So, we can’t count anyone out because anyone can win the Asia Cup. It’s never about one team, we’ll need to focus on all the participants,” said Rohit Sharma.
“It’s a good tournament where your skills, playing under pressure will be tested. I look at it as a good competition in the build up to the ODI World Cup. We’ll need a few answers and tick a few boxes and so it’s the right time to play this tournament. Our first aim is to do well in the Asia Cup and then think about the rest of the matches of the World Cup later,” added Sharma.
Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback
“Jasprit Bumrah came back after a really long time and it was good to see him back because he is an important player in our team. Both Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna played really well in the Ireland series. So, these are good signs going forward for us. Both of them worked hard in the past one and half years at the NCA,” said Rohit Sharma.
“That said, I don’t want to add unnecessary pressure with any expectations by talking about one or two players. Every player will be important during the World Cup. Yes, there will be a little more expectations from certain players but we don’t want to add pressure on Bumrah. As such, playing for India and pressure go hand-in-hand,” concluded Rohit.
