WC 2023: Hardik Pandya ruled out of India’s match against New Zealand

India’s vice captain Hardik Pandya recently pulled an ankle injury during the match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra cricket Association Stadium in Pune on 19 October of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Hardik Pandya failed to come back to the field for the rest of the inning after bowling 3 balls of 9th over. 

Hardik Pandya has now been ruled out of India’s next match against New Zealand which will be held on 22 October in Dharamshala. Hardik Pandya reports have been sent to a doctor in Mumbai. A lot of buzz has been going on about who will replace Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder in India’s next match.

BCCI’s statement on Hardik Pandya’s injury

“Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England,” said the BCCI.  

“He (Hardik Pandya) pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about. We’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward. Everyone in the squad has gone through pressure, the crowd is coming in big numbers, the stands are full, they haven’t disappointed us, they’ve been brilliant and I’m sure they’ll be louder and louder as we move on”, said Rohit Sharma.
