Wanindu Hasaranga set to miss IPL 2026, LSG to name replacement soon

Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is set to miss the entire tournament.

Hasaranga has not played any professional cricket since Sri Lanka’s first match in the 2026 T20 World Cup against Ireland. In that game, he picked up three wickets and looked in good form. However, since then, he has not completed the mandatory fitness test under Sri Lanka Cricket.

Without clearing this test, he cannot receive the No Objection Certificate (NOC). This document is required for players to participate in overseas leagues like the IPL. As a result, Hasaranga will not be able to join the Lucknow squad this season.

George Linde likely to replace Hasaranga in LSG squad

LSG’s Global Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, confirmed the news during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He said, “We are preparing for the fact that he isn’t going to be able to join us. We are looking at replacements, that should be announced in 24-48 hours,” Tom Moody said during the KKR vs LSG game.

Hasaranga was bought by LSG in the mini auction for INR 2 crore. The franchise will now have to find a suitable replacement quickly.

According to reports, South Africa all-rounder George Linde is expected to replace him. Linde has good experience in franchise cricket. He has played in tournaments like SA20 and The Hundred.

The 34-year-old has played 37 T20Is for South Africa. He has scored 403 runs and taken 35 wickets. He is known for his aggressive batting and tight bowling.

Linde is part of the Registered Available Player Pool. This allows teams to sign him as a replacement during the season.
