Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out due to injury, Sri Lanka Announced squad for World Cup

As cricket fans across the globe prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, all eyes are on Sri Lanka, who recently revealed their 15-member squad. The team’s prospects have taken a hit with the notable absence of their star spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, due to injury.

Injury Strikes Sri Lanka’s Key Players

Wanindu Hasaranga, a pillar of strength for the Sri Lankan side, unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury. His absence is being widely discussed, given that he had been in sublime form during the Lankan Premier League, topping both the run-scorers and the wicket-takers list.

Notably, Dushmantha Chameera, the experienced pacer, will also miss out on the World Cup due to a shoulder injury. On a brighter note, the inclusion of Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara has been welcomed, given they’ve returned from their injuries sustained during the Asia Cup.

Balanced Squad Despite Injuries

Even in the face of adversity, Sri Lanka fields a balanced squad. The batting department looks solid with top-order batsmen like Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Kusal Mendis, supported by a robust middle order.

The all-rounder role is aptly taken up by the captain, Dasun Shanaka, while the pace department and spinners, led by Maheesh Theekshana, seem ready for the challenge.

Sri Lanka’s Road to the World Cup

Before diving into the main event, Sri Lanka will test their mettle in warm-up games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Their main challenge begins on October 7 when they face South Africa.

Losing Wanindu Hasaranga is indeed a blow for Sri Lanka. But, as history has shown, a team’s strength isn’t solely dependent on individual brilliance. With the talent in their roster, the Lions have the potential to rise above the challenge. As fans gear up for an exciting World Cup, the Sri Lankan team will look to bring their A-game, adapting to the circumstances and striving for glory.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (C), Kusal Mendis (VC), Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka
