Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to appoint former Australian allrounder Tom Moody as their new Global Director of Cricket. In this role, Moody will manage operations across LSG’s multiple franchises; the IPL team in Lucknow, Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20, and their Manchester-based side in The Hundred.
Tom Moody to work with Justin Langer and Kane Williamson
Moody will work closely with his former Australia and Western Australia teammate Justin Langer, who remains the head coach. He will also collaborate with Kane Williamson, who was recently appointed as the team’s Strategic Advisor.
The 60-year-old is one of the most respected coaches in world cricket. He brings over two decades of international and franchise coaching experience. Earlier this year, he guided the Oval Invincibles to their third straight Hundred title in England as head coach. He also led the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, taking them to runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2025.
According to ESPNcricinfo, both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) owners of the Mumbai Indians, who recently bought a 49% stake in the Oval Invincibles wanted to keep Moody. However, Moody chose to join LSG, as the new role offers him a broader and more influential position across multiple teams.
The RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG), owners of LSG, have not yet made the appointment official. Details about Moody’s contract are still not confirmed. This move also marks Moody’s return to the IPL after leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) following the 2022 season.
Moody had two stints with SRH. In his first spell from 2013 to 2019, he guided the team to the 2016 IPL title. He returned in 2021 as Director of Cricket and was later promoted to Head Coach in 2022.
At LSG, Moody will replace Zaheer Khan, who served as the Global Director of Cricket for the 2024 season. Zaheer left the franchise in September 2024, ending his contract a year early.

After strong showings in 2022 and 2023, LSG failed to reach the playoffs in the last two seasons. They finished seventh in IPL 2025, winning only six of their 14 games, including just two home victories at the Ekana Stadium.
