The Maharashtra Cricket Association has made a historic move to option their seats for the first time in the history of cricket stadiums. The seeds that will be auctioned are not just any seats in the stadium, but are the ones wherein the World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed the victory six in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was the first that India won after 28 years after 1983. The seats are exclusively available for the auction on the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) official website. The association has created a section for the special ‘Request for proposal for buyout of Hospitality Package for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches at Wankhede Stadium’ and has titled the section as “Cricket World Cup 2011 Victory Memorial Stand (2 seats) to be auctioned”.

MCA president on the auction of MS Dhoni seats
The MCA president Amol Kale said the seats where MS Dhoni hit the match-winning six cannot be justified with just a memorial, but they will be named after India’s former captain, MS Dhoni. He said, “There will be no memorial, but those seats at the historic spot will be especially designed and named after MS Dhoni. Those two special seats will be permanently named after MS Dhoni, and will be known as ‘MS Dhoni seats’. We are making something different. There’s no memorial, but those seats will be beautifully decorated and specially designed. They will like a sofa/comforter, and will have hospitality services. We will sell those seats at a premium (price).
