Tamim Iqbal Becomes Youngest BCB President After Board Dissolved by Government

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has taken a big step in his career. The 37-year-old has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He is now the youngest person to hold this position.

The decision came after the Bangladesh government dissolved the existing BCB board. The board was led by Aminul Islam. The move followed recommendations from a five-member investigation committee. The committee had raised concerns about the board elections held in October last year.

The report was submitted to the sports ministry. Soon after, action was taken.

The National Sports Council played a key role in this decision. NSC sports director Mohammed Aminul Ahesan explained the situation clearly.

“As part of the National Sports Council’s responsibility, we have informed the ICC that this board of directors was not formed in a proper manner, and is not able to complete its work in a proper manner,” Mohammed Aminul Ahesan, the NSC sports director, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“We have informed the ICC our decision to dissolve this board of directors. The NSC plays an important role for Bangladesh cricket or any sport in Bangladesh and on behalf of the government. Therefore, we are optimistic about the BCB and we think that the ICC will definitely uphold this decision,” he added.

Tamim will now lead an ad-hoc committee. The panel includes former captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-player Athar Ali Khan. Several other members have also been added.

Tamim retired from international cricket in January 2025. He played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. He scored more than 15,000 runs across formats.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will soon face New Zealand national cricket team in a white-ball series at home. The matches will be played between April 17 and May 2 in Dhaka and Chattogram.
