Stuart Broad announces retirement from Test Cricket

The legendary English fast-pace bowler, Stuart Broad has recently called it time from Test cricket, the longest format of the game. Broad will play his last test and will retire from the format after concluding the Ashes 2023, in the last test match at The Oval, London.

Reportedly, Stuart Broad reached his teammates, James Anderson and Joe Root on Friday to inform them about his retirement decision. Stuart Broad recently picked up his 600th test wicket last week at Old Trafford in Manchester. He became the second bowler to achieve this feat after James Anderson, and the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the world.

Before declaring it officially, Stuart Broad claimed that he had been thinking about it for quite some time and retirement had been on his cards for a while now. Broad also added how he felt happy after finally revealing the decision to the England cricket team Captain Ben Stokes.

“I told Stokesy last night and told the change room this morning. And to be honest, it just felt like the right time. I mean, I thought a lot about it and, you know, even up until, like, eight o’clock last night, I wasn’t 50 to 50 but I was a little bit unsure,” said Stuart Broad during an exclusive conversation with Sky Sports.

“But once I actually went to Stokes’s room and told him, I just felt really happy ever since, really content with everything that I’ve achieved in the game, and ultimately the decision came down to I know I knew I wanted to leave the game loving cricket and my lasting memories being of a really enjoyable changing room,” said Stuart Broad.

“Ben didn’t you know, he really understood the decision. You know, I hadn’t talked a lot about it. I hadn’t mentioned it to him beforehand, but I wanted to make sure I was. I was clear in my mind. I wasn’t sort of going in for a negotiation. Really needed to be clear before I mentioned it to anyone,” added Stuart Broad.
