Sri Lanka Cricket Denies Financial Crisis Rumours Ahead of Hosting ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has denied rumours about a financial crisis. The board says that the claims being shared on social media and some news channels are false. SLC called the reports “unfounded and misleading.”

The cricket board is the main body that manages the sport in Sri Lanka. It says that all financial operations are stable. SLC confirmed that it is fully prepared to host upcoming international events, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Sri Lanka is set to co-host this tournament with India. The SLC also said it is ready to conduct 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will be held in September this year.

SLC Says It Is Financially Strong and Focused on Future

In an official statement on Thursday, July 31, SLC said, “We wish to clarify that the recent claims about a financial crisis are not true. Sri Lanka Cricket has enough financial strength to run its operations and work on long-term goals.”

SLC added that hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup and Women’s World Cup matches needs strong planning. These big events can only be handled by an organisation with good financial health. SLC said their plans are on track, and work is going on smoothly.

The board also talked about improving stadiums across Sri Lanka. It wants to upgrade and restore venues to match international standards before the T20 World Cup. SLC is also focusing on improving facilities for young cricketers.

SLC ended the statement by saying it is fully committed to the future of cricket in the country. It asked fans and the media not to believe in rumours and to support the game positively.
