Mumbai, June 12: South Korea kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Czechia in the opening fixture, overturning a second-half deficit through a determined display of attacking intent and resilience. After conceding first, South Korea responded strongly to claim all three points courtesy of goals from Hwang In-beom and Oh Hyeon-gyu.
Czechia broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Ladislav Krejčí converted from a well-worked long throw-in routine to put his side ahead.

South Korea responded swiftly and restored parity in the 67th minute as Hwang In-beom found the back of the net to shift the momentum in his side’s favour. Maintaining their attacking pressure, South Korea completed the comeback in the 80th minute when Oh Hyeon-gyu finished from close range to seal a 2-1 victory.
