Former India captain MS Dhoni ended his social media silence after India’s historic win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter shared a special message for the Indian players and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
India made history by becoming the first team to retain the T20 World Cup title. The Men in Blue defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium.
Dhoni, who usually stays away from the spotlight, was present during India’s semifinal against England national cricket team at Wankhede Stadium. He also attended the final in Ahmedabad. Moments before the match began, Dhoni carried the T20 World Cup trophy onto the field along with India captain Rohit Sharma.
The former captain watched the match from the VVIP box during the thrilling final. India produced a powerful batting performance and scored 255 for 5 in their innings.

India’s innings was built on strong performances from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who both scored quick half-centuries. Sanju Samson once again played a brilliant knock. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 89 runs from 46 balls and helped India reach a massive total.
Chasing 256 runs, New Zealand struggled against India’s strong bowling attack. The Kiwis were bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs.
India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell. He picked up four wickets and played a key role in sealing the victory.
After the match, Dhoni posted a rare message on Instagram. His post quickly went viral among fans. He praised Gambhir’s leadership and congratulated the team.
“Coach Sahab smile looks great on you. Intensity with smile is a killer combo, very well done,” the former Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter wrote.
