Sam Curran shares England’s strategies ahead of first match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Sam Curran, talked about England’s strategies and mindset before beginning the campaign of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2023. England will lock horns against New Zealand once again after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 final match. The team will play the first match of this season of the World Cup on 5 October in the Narendra Modi stadium, Ahmedabad from 2 PM IST.

Sam Curran Turned about the mindset of the team’s captain Jos Buttler and the comeback of Ben Stokes, who retired from the format previously. After playing a lot of IPL in the country, Sam Curran believes the Indian cricket team will be favourites to win the tournament considering the conditions of the field.

Sam Curran talked about Jos Buttler’s intent for the World Cup 2023

“Jos wants our team to attack with flair – he’d rather get bowled out for a lower score, showing positive intent, than meander our way to a safe score. He always wants to be breaking boundaries, pushing teams and putting them under a lot of pressure. Naturally, people want to see fours, sixes and wickets”, said Sam Curran.

“You see the way England are playing Test cricket now with Ben Stokes coming in (as captain). They want players to attack, attack, attack. No team has really done that before and they’ve caught others off guard, so it’s about breaking the traditions in a way to keep the game moving forward,” he added.

“It’s huge. He’s (Ben Stokes) the man of the moment. In most situations, he always seems to be that guy. Looking back at the last World Cup, he’s the one who got them so close. He retired but I knew that if his body could do it, he really wanted to come back. He’s a massive player to have and his presence and skill are up there with the best in the world,” he said.

“I feel like India being the home side, and with it being their conditions, they’re probably the favourites. Cricket’s a religion (in India) so you’ve got to go with an open mind, take it all in and expect an amazing experience. For one of my good mates, Gus Atkinson, it’s his first time going to India, so he’s been asking questions about the conditions, the culture, the people, the fans. People just love the game and when you leave the hotel, you get mobbed by loads of fans, which is amazing. It just shows how much people love and worship cricket in India,” added Curran.
