An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly responded to the controversial case of Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag. The young cricketer was seen dragging a vape during an IPL match. The board has decided to take the matter seriously.
According to reports, the BCCI will call Parag and ask for an explanation. Only after hearing his side will they decide the next step. The incident has created a big debate among fans and experts.
Notably, Parag was spotted smoking a vape inside the dressing room during Match No. 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The match was played against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Tuesday, April 28. The visuals quickly went viral on social media and shocked many viewers.
“We will be seeking an explanation from Riyan on this issue, as vaping is not allowed. Depending on his explanation, the IPL will take further course of action,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
What actually happened during the PBKS vs RR match?
During the sixteenth over of the PBKS vs RR match, the live broadcast showed the Rajasthan Royals dressing room. At that moment, Parag was seen using a vaping device. His teammates Dhruv Jurel, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Kuldeep Sen were also sitting nearby.
The moment raised serious questions. Many fans criticized the act, especially because it happened during a live professional game.
In India, vaping is banned and is considered a punishable offence. A first-time offender can face a fine of up to INR 1 lakh or jail for up to one year, or both. For repeat offences, the punishment becomes stricter, with higher fines and longer jail terms.
Since this is the first such case involving Parag, he could face a fine if found guilty.
