India head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly come under pressure following a series of disappointing results across all formats. According to a report by Cric Blogger, some senior members of the Indian team are not fully satisfied with his coaching methods.
The report claimed that a few experienced players have privately shared their concerns with former India cricketers and members of the BCCI Apex Council. However, no official complaint has been made against the former India opener.

“It is understood that some senior players have privately conveyed their reservations about Gambhir’s coaching style to former India cricketers as well as members of the BCCI Apex Council. While these discussions remain informal, they have added to the scrutiny surrounding the head coach.”
The report also stated that Gambhir’s approach of not taking enough responsibility after defeats has not been appreciated by some people within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Despite these reported concerns, the BCCI continues to back Gambhir, and he remains in charge of the national team.
India’s next assignment is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. India are currently placed fifth in the WTC standings with four wins, four defeats and one draw.
Gambhir’s Test coaching record has produced mixed results so far. India suffered a historic 0-3 home series defeat against New Zealand in 2024. It was India’s first-ever 3-0 home whitewash in a Test series of three or more matches. The team also lost a home Test series 0-2 to South Africa before recovering with a 2-2 drawn series in England.
India will also be without several key players in Sri Lanka. Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana have all been ruled out because of injuries.
With recent defeats in Ireland and England in white-ball cricket, the upcoming Test series will be an important opportunity for Gambhir and India to bounce back.
