Namibia have booked their place at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. They defeated Tanzania by 63 runs in the first semifinal of the Africa Regional Qualifier in Harare on Thursday, October 2. With this win, Namibia became the 16th team to qualify for next year’s global event.
The qualifier in Harare will send one more African team to the World Cup. Zimbabwe and Kenya will face off in the second semifinal later on Thursday. The winner of that match will secure the final African spot. The final of the tournament is set for Saturday, but it will not decide qualification, as both finalists will already be through.
Namibia’s fourth World Cup appearance
This will be Namibia’s fourth appearance at a T20 World Cup. They previously played in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Their biggest highlight came in 2022, when they shocked Sri Lanka. That result was called one of the greatest upsets in their cricket history. With a ticket secured for India and Sri Lanka next year, Namibia will aim to go even further and make a strong mark on the big stage.
Before Namibia’s entry, 15 teams had already qualified. The 20-team event will be completed when three more teams qualify from the Asia and East Asia-Pacific tournaments. Those matches will begin on October 8 in Oman. Teams competing include Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Samoa, and the United Arab Emirates.
