Mitchell Starc, Matthew Renshaw Return as Australia Announce Squads for India Series

Cricket Australia has named the squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against India, starting October 19 in Perth. The announcement sees several key players making a return to the national setup.

Mitchell Starc returns to the ODI squad along with Matt Short, who missed the last series with a side strain, and Mitch Owen, who was concussed during the T20 leg against South Africa. Left-hand batter Matthew Renshaw has also been recalled to the ODI team for the first time since 2022 after impressive performances for Australia A and Queensland.

Starc and Renshaw Back in ODI Squad

Alex Carey will miss the opening ODI in Perth as he plays in the Sheffield Shield for South Australia against Queensland at the Adelaide Oval. Carey had missed the first Shield match due to his call-up for the New Zealand tour.

Josh Inglis returns to the T20 squad after recovering from a minor calf injury. Nathan Ellis is also back after missing the last series due to the birth of his first child. However, Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a wrist fracture suffered on the New Zealand tour.

Chair of Selectors George Bailey said:

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Cameron Green will continue his preparation for the Test summer with Western Australia after the ODI series.
