MI New York Beat Washington Freedom by 5 Runs to Win Second Major League Cricket Title

MI New York won their second Major League Cricket (MLC) title on July 14, 2025. They beat Washington Freedom in a close match by just 5 runs at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

In the game, Washington Freedom won the toss and chose to bowl first. MI New York made a strong start. Openers Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock added quick runs. Monank scored 28 runs from 22 balls. De Kock was the star with a brilliant 77 off just 46 balls.

In the middle overs, Tajinder Singh hit 14 runs from 9 balls while captain Nicholas Pooran played a helpful knock of 21 runs off 16 balls. These scored helped MI New York reach a total of 180 runs.

For Washington Freedom, Lockie Ferguson bowled very well. He took 3 wickets and gave his team hope. Other bowlers Saurabh Netravalkar, Glenn Maxwell, Jack Edwards, and Ian Holland took one wicket each.

Washington Freedom’s Slow Start to Chase Pushes MI New York Towards MLC 2025 Win 

Washington Freedom had a poor start to their chase as openers Mitchell Owen and Andries Gous were both dismissed for a duck. However, Rachin Ravindra kept the game alive. He batted with confidence and scored a quick 70 off 41 balls. After his dismissal, Glenn Phillips took control. He played an attacking innings and remained unbeaten on 48 runs from 34 balls.

The match went down to the final over. Glenn Maxwell tried to finish the game but was dismissed for 15. In the final over, Washington Freedom needed 12 runs. MI New York’s Rushil Ugarkar stayed calm and bowled tight lines, conceding only 6 runs and winning the match by 5 runs.

With this win, MI New York lifted the MLC trophy for the second time. Their players celebrated the hard-fought victory in front of cheering fans.

It was a thrilling final with great performances from both sides. However, MI New York held their nerve at the end to become champions once again.
