Lionel Messi recently won the Ballon d’Or for the 8th time in his football career in Paris, France on 30th October, Monday night for best performance in the sport as he was awarded as the best player. Messi won his previous Ballon d’Or award in 2021.
Messi led Argentina towards their first FIFA World Cup in 36 years as they beat France in a penalty shootout last year. Lionel Messi is now three Ballon d’Or trophies ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo who won his fifth trophy in 2017.

“I couldn’t imagine having the career that I’ve had. Everything that I’ve achieved. The fortune I’ve had playing for the best team in the world, the best team in history. It’s nice to win these individual trophies. To win the Copa America and then the World Cup, to get it done is amazing. All of them (Ballon d’Or awards) are special for different reasons,” said Messi after winning the Ballon d’Or.
“I’m happy to get that recognition that I’m getting thanks to what we have achieved with the national team,” Messi was quoted by Reuters.

“Happy birthday, Diego. This is for you too. This is a gift to the whole Argentina team for what we achieved. This (World Cup) title we had been aiming for for so many years makes it even more special,” said Lionel Messi while talking to AFP after winning the Ballon d’Or.
