With the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) around the corner, the player retention deadline is nearing, and fans are eagerly awaiting the announcements from their favorite teams. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL governing committee have outlined detailed guidelines for the IPL 2025 mega auction and player retention rules.
A significant change this year is that all 10 IPL teams can retain up to six players from their previous squads, including the use of the Right to Match (RTM) card. This is an increase from the previous retention limit of five players. Teams can retain a mix of capped and uncapped players, with a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players allowed.
The RTM card will enable teams to reacquire players they couldn’t retain directly. For uncapped players, retention is priced at INR 4 crores, which will be deducted from each team’s total purse of INR 120 crores. Retention amounts for capped players are as follows:
Retention Player Value
Retained Player 1 INR 18 crores
Retained Player 2 INR 14 crores
Retained Player 3 INR 11 crores
Retained Player 4 INR 18 crores
Retained Player 5 INR 14 crores
IPL 2025 Retention Deadline and Timing
The retention deadline for all teams is set for 5 PM IST on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Each team will reveal their retained players and those secured under the RTM card by this time.
Where to Watch the IPL 2025 Retention Show
A special retention show will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network at 4:30 PM IST on October 31. Fans can also stream the event on Jio Cinema at the same time.
This retention period sets the stage for the IPL 2025 mega auction, as teams solidify their squads and prepare for a competitive season ahead.
