It was a tough night for India’s spin attack in Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Defending champions Australia turned the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash into a historic chase.
Chasing 331, Australia pulled off the highest successful run chase in Women’s ODI history. In the middle of that storm, Sneh Rana endured one of the worst spells ever. Her 10 overs went for 85 runs without a wicket. It was the most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in Women’s ODI World Cup history.
Sneh Rana’s Nightmare Spell against Australia in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025
Nothing worked for Sneh Rana. The Australian batters danced down the track and hit her with ease. Her tight lines went missing. Every time she tossed it up, it was punished. Every ball seemed to meet the middle of the bat.
This unwanted record broke Gouher Sultana’s mark of 72 runs conceded against Sri Lanka in the 2013 World Cup. Pacer Kranti Gaud also went for 73 runs in nine overs, meaning two Indian bowlers crossed the old record in the same match.
Rana’s 85 is now the worst spell by a spinner in Women’s World Cup history. Earlier, Pakistan’s Nashra Sandhu had held the record with 82 against England in 2017. The global record remains with South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail, who gave away 89 against England in 2017.
It was also India’s third most expensive spell in Women’s ODIs overall. Priya Mishra’s 88-run spell against Australia and Arundhati Reddy’s 86 were the only ones ahead.

Rana could not find redemption with the bat either. She came in at No. 9 and remained unbeaten on 8 off 6 balls. India were bowled out for 330 in 48.5 overs. It looked like a big total but Australia made it look easy.
Before this match, Rana was in good form with both bat and ball. She had been steady and consistent. But in cricket, every bowler has that one bad day. For Rana, this was that day. She will now aim to bounce back strongly in the next game.
