India bounced back strongly in the T20 World Cup 2026. After the horror show against South Africa in the Super 8, the Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai. It was a must-win game for India. They delivered under pressure.
Batting first, India posted a huge total of 256/4. Abhishek Sharma was the top-scorer with 55 runs. The Indian batters attacked from the start. Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to control the flow of runs.
In reply, Zimbabwe could only manage 184/6 while chasing 257. Arshdeep Singh was the star with the ball. He picked up 3/24 and broke the back of Zimbabwe’s chase. India maintained their 100 percent record against Zimbabwe in T20 World Cup history. This was only the second meeting between the two teams in the tournament.
This was India’s first win in the Super 8 stage. They have now won five out of six matches in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Race for the Semis Heats Up
India will next face West Indies on March 1. It is a virtual quarterfinal. The winner will move to the semifinals. The loser will be knocked out. The last time India failed to reach the semifinals was in 2021.
India are chasing a historic third T20 World Cup title. They won their second crown in 2024. They were also the inaugural champions in 2007.
South Africa have already qualified for the semifinals from this group. Zimbabwe are now out of the race. In the other Super 8 group, England have sealed a semifinal spot. Sri Lanka are eliminated. New Zealand and Pakistan are fighting for the last place.
The semifinals will be played on March 4 and 5. The final will take place on March 8.
