ICC slaps fine on Harshit Rana after misconduct in IND vs SA 1st ODI

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a reprimand to India fast bowler Harshit Rana for an on-field incident during the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and South Africa. The match was played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30 where India won the match by 17 runs.

Rana was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This article deals with provoking an aggressive reaction or using a gesture against a batter after dismissal. The breach was related to a provocative gesture made by Rana.

The incident happened during the 22nd over of South Africa’s chase. Rana dismissed Dewald Brevis and then gestured for him to walk back to the dressing room. Match referee Richie Richardson took note of the act and reported it.

After the hearing, Rana accepted the charge without any challenge. As a result, one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. This is his first offence in the last 24 months. Therefore, the demerit point will stay on his record for the next 24 months.

Despite the reprimand, Harshit Rana delivered a strong performance in the match. He finished with bowling figures of 3 for 65 in a high-scoring game. His spell helped India defend their total successfully.

Rana struck early in his second over. He dismissed Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock in quick succession. Dewald Brevis later became his third victim of the night. His timely breakthroughs slowed South Africa’s chase at a crucial stage.

India managed to keep the visitors short of the target and sealed a 17-run victory. Rana’s contribution with the ball played an important role in the win.
