India registered a strong 30-run win over South Africa in their only warm-up match before the T20 World Cup 2026. The match was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The result boosted confidence.
But the win also brought worrying news for the team. Just days before their title defence begins, fast bowler Harshit Rana suffered an injury scare. The 24-year-old pacer walked off the field with visible discomfort while bowling. His injury has added to India’s growing fitness concerns.
India batted first and put up a massive total of 240 runs in 20 overs. The batting unit looked sharp and aggressive. The bowlers also showed good intent early on. However, Rana’s injury overshadowed the performance.
Harshit Rana walks off during South Africa chase
Harshit Rana’s problem became clear during South Africa’s chase. He bowled the first over of his spell but looked uncomfortable. While starting his second over, he pulled out of his run-up twice. Soon after, he was seen clutching his knee. Moments later, Rana left the field while limping. He bowled only one over in the match. He conceded 16 runs.
The exact nature of the injury is still unknown. So far, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has not shared an official update. There is no clarity on how serious the knee issue is. His availability for the opening World Cup matches is also uncertain. Rana has played nine T20Is for India.
He was in the race for a place in the playing XI. He was competing closely with Kuldeep Yadav, depending on conditions. India are already dealing with Washington Sundar’s fitness issue. The all-rounder has not played since his rib injury against New Zealand.
He remains at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Tilak Varma, however, has returned to full fitness and played the warm-ups. With the tournament about to begin, India now wait for medical clarity on Rana and Sundar.
