The fans of Gokulam Kerala FC will be part of the official Olympic fan army. This is an initiative by the MPL sports foundation. The Indian Olympic contingent will have its own fan group. MPL sports foundation is the principal partner of the Indian Olympic contingent heading to Tokyo.
The current champions of ISL, FC Goa, and the current champions of the I-League, Gokulam Kerala FC will be part of this fan movement. Apart from the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders and their fans will be a part of this movement as well.
Apart from these clubs Shillong Lajong FC and Real Kashmir FC will also be a part of this fan movement. Shillong FC is the first club from the northeast to make a mark in National football. This will completely diversify the fan movement.
Since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is being held behind closed doors, the fan movement taking place will be virtually held. A large engagement exercise has been planned with the fans submitting their fan moments through photographs and videos. This is the first time that the Indian Olympic Contingent will have a fan base of their own cheering them on to bring glory to the nation.
“We are proud to be part of this initiative. As a football club, we believe that we have to back our athletes. We will ask our fans to support the initiative and we use our social media platforms to amplify the reach of the initiative,” said VC Praveen, the president of Gokulam Kerala FC on joining the Olympic fan army.
