In the first season of the WPL, India all-rounder Deepti Sharma was chosen to serve as the UP Warriorz team’s vice-captain.
The franchisee with a base in Lucknow made the announcement on Saturday in a statement.
Deepti Sharma, a 25-year-old Agra native, was one of the most sought-after Indian athletes at the Auction.
She is an essential member of the Indian women’s squad and one of the few nationals to have participated in franchise competitions abroad.
With her abundance of experience and leadership skills, Deepti—who has taken six wickets in five games at the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup—is positioned to play a key role in the leadership group.
Deepti played with Western Storm (Super League), Sydney Thunder (WBBL), Birmingham Phoenix, and London Spirit (both The Hundred) during her time playing franchise cricket outside of India. She was also a great spinner, solid batsman, and fierce fielder.
Deepti has taken 32 wickets and scored 394 runs in the 30 games she has played in franchise cricket abroad. She has also played for the Trailblazers and Velocity in India’s Women’s T20 Competition.
Deepti has participated in 92 T20I matches so far in her career and currently holds the record for most wickets taken by an Indian player with 102.
In 2016, she made her T20Is debut.
