England’s batting sensation Alex Hales announces retirement

The England cricket team’s top order batsman, Alex Hales recently announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on his official Instagram account on 4 August 2023, Friday. The destructive batsman represented England across all three formats of cricket on 156 occasions in Test cricket, ODIs and T20Is. 

Alex Hales’ last performance for the England cricket team game against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup 2022 final match. Alex Hales has scored 2,419 runs in 67 ODI games at an average of nearly 38 and 2,074 runs in 75 T20Is. 

Alex Hales has had multiple ups and downs in his cricket career. He was fined and suspended in 2017 outside a Bristol nightclub alongside Ben Stokes. He was banned in 2019 after testing positive for a recreational drug which cost him a valuable position in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 winning squad.

“Just a note to announce that I have decided to retire from international cricket. It has been an absolute privilege to have represented my country on 156 occasions across all three formats. I’ve made some memories and some friendships to last a lifetime and I feel that now is the right time to move on,” said Alex Hales on his official Instagram account. 

“Throughout my time in an England shirt I’ve experienced some of the highest highs as well as some of the lowest lows. It’s been an incredible journey and I feel very content that my last game for England was winning a World Cup final,” added Alex Hales on his official Instagram account. 

“Throughout the ups and downs I’ve always felt a huge amount of support from my friends, family and undoubtedly the best fans in world cricket. I look forward to continuing to play for Notts and experiencing more franchise cricket around the world,” concluded Alex Hales on his official Instagram account.
