Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Al-Nassr as £43m clause activates amid transfer dispute

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr looks uncertain. The Saudi club will reportedly not stop him if he decides to leave this summer.

The 41-year-old forward has missed the team’s last two matches. Reports claim he is unhappy with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). He believes rival clubs are receiving more support in the transfer market.

Ronaldo did not play in the recent league game against Al-Ittihad. That absence increased talk about a possible exit from the Saudi Pro League. Officials are said to be surprised by his reaction and behaviour.

According to The i Paper, league authorities feel no player is bigger than the project. Even a global star like Ronaldo will not change their long-term plans.

Saudi Pro League already planning replacements

Saudi officials are already thinking about new superstars if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves. The league wants another global face to maintain its popularity.

A source close to the league said: “With other big names leaving, we will look at lots of other marquee names in the summer. Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect picks. Salah especially, given he would attract an Arab audience as a Muslim.

“Either of those coming in, along with that younger talent, would be huge for us. And really soften any Ronaldo blow.”

Manchester United are not interested in re-signing Ronaldo. However, a return to his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon has been discussed. The main problem is the £43 million release clause in his contract.

Despite the controversy, Al-Nassr performed well without him. The team beat Al-Ittihad 2-0. Sadio Mane and Angelo Gabriel scored late goals to secure the victory.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 and became the face of the Saudi Pro League. Now his time in Saudi Arabia may be nearing its end.
