Australian allrounder Cameron Green was the biggest name at the IPL 2026 auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for INR 25.20 crore. This made Green the third-most expensive player in IPL auction history. He also became the most expensive overseas player ever.
KKR also signed Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for INR 18 crore. This was the second-highest buy at the auction.
The real surprise came from uncapped Indian players.
Uncapped Indian players steal the show
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought 20-year-old allrounder Prashant Veer for INR 14.2 crore. They also bought 19-year-old wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma for the same amount. Both broke Avesh Khan’s record of INR 10 crore for an uncapped Indian player.
Delhi Capitals (DC) signed Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi for INR 8.4 crore. KKR started the auction with the biggest purse of INR 64.3 crore.
They fought CSK for Green after Mumbai Indians dropped out early. Rajasthan Royals exited at INR 13.40 crore. The bidding for Green lasted over ten minutes. Although Green was bought for INR 25.20 crore, he will get only INR 18 crore.
The extra INR 7.2 crore will go to the BCCI for player welfare. This is due to the overseas player salary cap.
Green played IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians and IPL 2024 for RCB. He missed the IPL 2025 mega auction due to a back injury.
