Delhi Capitals suffered a shocking defeat against Punjab Kings in match 35 of the IPL 2026 season. The match was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 25. Capitals failed to defend a huge total of 265 runs.
After the match, captain Axar Patel openly criticized his team. He blamed both the bowlers and fielders for the loss. The all-rounder looked disappointed during the post-match presentation.
Poor fielding and bowling cost Delhi
Axar Patel did not hold back while speaking to Ravi Shastri. He pointed out repeated mistakes by his team. He said “We’re making the same mistakes repeatedly. If you don’t support the bowlers on such a wicket, I think you deserve to lose. If we grab the crucial moments, two or three results would have gone our way.”
The captain also spoke about the bowling performance. He added “At the same time, our bowling unit also needs to take a look [at them], given their score in the powerplay.”
Delhi’s fielding was below standard. Karun Nair dropped Shreyas Iyer twice in quick time. Those misses proved costly. Iyer went on to score 71 not out off 36 balls and guided Punjab to victory.
Every Delhi bowler struggled. Kuldeep Yadav gave away 46 runs in four overs. Mukesh Kumar conceded 55 runs. Auqib Nabi also leaked runs heavily.
Earlier, Delhi posted a massive 264/2. KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls. Nitish Rana added 91 off 44 balls.
Punjab Kings started strongly. Prabhsimran Singh scored 76 off 26 balls. Priyansh Arya made 43 off 16. Their 126-run opening stand set the tone.
Punjab chased the target in just 18.5 overs. They won by six wickets and stayed unbeaten this season.
