A major controversy broke out after India’s 5-wicket win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final. The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
In a shocking twist, Naqvi walked away from the presentation with the Asia Cup trophy and the medals. This action angered the Indian players and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia strongly criticised the act. He called it “unsportsmanlike” and “unfortunate”. He also confirmed that India will raise the issue in the ICC conference in November.
“We had decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman who happens to be one of the leading leaders of Pakistan. But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy along with the medals,” Saikia said in a post-match press interaction. “It is very unfortunate, very unsporting, and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible. We are going to protest against this at the ICC conference in November,” Saikia said as quoted by The Indian Express.
BCCI Demands Return Of Asia Cup Trophy After Mohsin Naqvi Runs Away
The controversy came after political tensions between the two nations. India had already decided not to accept the trophy from a Pakistani political figure.
Saikia explained that while the Indian players took a stand, that did not allow Naqvi to withhold the trophy.
“We were never prepared to take the trophy from someone representing the country that wages war against us. However, that doesn’t mean he can walk away with it,” Saikia added.

The BCCI is now preparing a protest letter. It will be sent to both the ICC and the ACC. The board has demanded the immediate return of the Asia Cup trophy and the players’ medals.
“We have decided not to take the #AsiaCup2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan. So we decided not to take it from him. But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. So it is very unfortunate and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible…There is an ICC conference in November in Dubai. In the next conference, we are going to launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson”, Saikia said.
