Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala ruled out of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

South Africa’s star players Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala have been ruled out from the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Both the players played 1 ODI match each in the team series against Australia, during Australia’s tour of South Africa and got injured during the matches. Both the players had minor injuries which led to them being ruled out of the tournament. 

Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala will be a miss for South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2023 considering their past performances.  However, Gerald Coetzee and Andile Phehlukwayo have been named as replacements for Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

South Africa duo Anrich Nortje, Sisanda Magala facing deadline to prove fitness ahead of World Cup

The team’s head coach Rob Walter talked about Gerald Coetzee and Andile Phehlukwayo walking in the squad and said, “It’s hugely disappointing for Anrich and Sisanda to be missing out on the 50-over World Cup. Both are quality players that add immense value to the Proteas. We sympathize with their omission and will continue to provide all the necessary support as they work towards their return to competitive action”.

“This provides an opportunity for Andile and Lizaad on the global stage. Both players have been part of our winter programs as well as having represented South Africa in the recent white-ball tour against Australia. They offer great skill sets and we’re excited to have them complete the 15-player squad for this year’s World Cup”, he added. 

South Africa’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Temba Bavuma (c), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen.
