Indian veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from professional cricket. The decision brings an end to a career that lasted more than 25 years.
Mishra played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India. He picked up 156 wickets across formats for the national team. At his peak, Mishra was known for his sharp spin and clever variations. His ability to deceive batters made him a key bowler for India in many matches.

While announcing his retirement, Amit Mishra said injuries and the desire to give younger players a chance influenced his decision. He admitted that the constant fitness challenges made it hard to continue at the highest level.
“These 25 years of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable,” Amit Mishra said in his statement. “I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, the Haryana Cricket Association, my teammates, support staff, and my family who stood by me always.”
Mishra also thanked the fans. “The love and support I got from fans whenever and wherever I played made my journey special. Cricket has given me memories and learnings for life. I will always treasure every moment I spent on the field,” he added.
Amit Mishra first made his mark in domestic cricket for Haryana. He soon rose to international cricket with his skill and consistency. Though opportunities in the Indian team were limited due to strong competition, he made valuable contributions whenever he played.
