The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially booked its place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. They became the 20th and final team to qualify for the big event. The tournament will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 7.
The Muhammad Waseem-led team sealed their spot after a strong win over Japan in the Asia/East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier held in Oman.
UAE’s Dominant Win Over Japan
The 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams for the second time. It is part of the ICC’s plan to grow the game around the world. Nepal and Oman had already confirmed their places earlier in the week. UAE’s win over Japan confirmed their qualification as the third Asia–EAP team.
Japan struggled from the start. Muhammad Farooq’s direct hit run-out dismissed Abhishek Anand early. Haider Ali bowled a top spell, taking key wickets of Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming and Esam Rahman. He finished with figures of 3/12 in three overs. Japan were 25/3 inside the Powerplay.

Wicketkeeper-batter Wataru Miyauchi tried to fight back with an unbeaten 45 off 32 balls. But Japan could only reach 116 runs. UAE made a fast start in reply. Skipper Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu attacked the bowlers early, racing to 36/0 in three overs.
Waseem scored 42 off 26 balls, while Sharafu made 46 off 27. UAE chased the target in just 13 overs. The win not only ended Japan’s qualification hopes but also eliminated Qatar and Samoa.
