Ahmedabad and Kolkata in Race to Host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Finals

The semi-final matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, no official decision has been made yet about the venue for the final.

The 2026 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The last time both boards co-hosted a major ICC event was during the 2011 ODI World Cup, which also included Bangladesh as a host nation. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has identified eight venues across both countries where the matches will be played in February and March next year.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, besides Ahmedabad and Kolkata, Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai will also host games. In Sri Lanka, Colombo and Kandy will be the two host cities. Both the SSC and RPS stadiums in Colombo are expected to stage matches during the group stage and Super Eights.

The final’s location will depend on whether Pakistan qualifies for the title clash or not. If Pakistan does not reach the final, it will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, if Pakistan makes it to the summit clash, the final will be played in Colombo instead of India.

For the semi-finals, the situation will also depend on team progress. If either Sri Lanka or Pakistan qualify for the semi-final stage, one match will be played in Colombo. But if neither of them makes it, both semi-finals will be held in India.

A recent ICC press release confirmed that the 20-team tournament will follow the same format as the 2024 edition. There will be four groups of five teams each. Alongside the 13 Test-playing nations, teams like Canada, Netherlands, UAE, Nepal, Oman, and Namibia will participate. Italy will also make its T20 World Cup debut.

After the group stage, the top teams will move to the Super Eights, divided into two groups of four teams each. India won the previous edition in the USA and the West Indies by defeating South Africa in the final. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, had failed to progress past the group stage. The ICC is expected to announce the full schedule and groupings soon.
