Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second match of India against Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be held on 11 October at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (previously named as Feroz Shah Kotla) in Delhi after suffering from Dengue.
Shubman Gill is down with high fever and was ruled out of the first match against Australia as well, despite travelling with the team to Chennai. The news was confirmed by Rohit Sharma at the toss during the team’s game against Australia on 8 October. Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI has declared that Shubman Gill will be staying back in Chennai with the for further supervision and will not be traveling to Delhi for the game.

“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team”, said Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI.
At the toss during India’s match against Australia, Rohit Sharma said, “The conditions are there for the bowlers and the ball will turn as the game goes on, you need to understand what line and lengths to bowl and adjust accordingly. We played a lot of cricket before that, we played two good series before the warm up games, we have covered all bases. Unfortunately he (Shubman Gill) didn’t recover in time, we waited till today morning and he couldn’t recover. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting.”
