According to court filings, a woman in the state of New York has filed a civil suit against Mike Tyson, claiming that the former boxing champion raped her in a limousine in the early 1990s.
In accordance with a temporary New York state law that permits victims of sexual assault to seek civil damages regardless of the statute of limitations, the woman, who requested anonymity, filed her complaint at the beginning of January.
After Tyson was found guilty of raping model Desiree Washington, who was 18 at the time, he spent three years in prison beginning in 1992.
The plaintiff claims that she met the boxer at a nightclub “in the early 1990s,” then followed him into his limousine, where he allegedly assaulted her before raping her, in a brief affidavit dated December 23, 2022.
She stated, “I suffered and continue to suffer from physical, psychological, and emotional injury as a result of Tyson’s rape.”
She wants $5 million in compensation. Tyson had not made a public statement as of late Tuesday.
Tyson, who was born in 1966 in Brooklyn, had a turbulent childhood before becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion in the 1980s. His rage in the ring and incredible punching power terrified his opponents.
However, he was unable to keep his titles after serving time in prison.
Tyson bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear in a famous fight in 1996.
He continued to make headlines, particularly for a one-man show in which he described the many ups and downs of his life. He was gripped by depression and addiction.
