India’s biggest sports quiz festival, the Barefoot Sports Quiz Fest, will hold its latest edition on August 20 and 21 in Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University North Campus. Organized by Barefoot India, the ninth edition of the annual quiz fest will feature five quizzes. The quiz fest sees several quizmasters come together from different parts of the country to conduct quizzes on different sports which are heavily attended by people from all ages and walks of life.

The first quiz of the event Grace and Glory, the Women in Sports Quiz will be hosted by Aakriti Mehrotra and Sumantra Sarathi Datta and will kick off the event at 10 AM on 20th August.

It will be followed by A Shot At History, a Quiz on India in Sports conducted by Dr. S Bhattaccharya and Titash Banerjee which will attract a lot of attention considering our commendable performances at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. This will be followed by Among The Thugs, the Football Quiz which will be hosted by Deepanjan Deb and Prithwish Datta.

The second day of quizzing action begins with the most attended quiz of previous Barefoot festivals, Beyond a Boundary – The Cricket Quiz. Popular author, Amit Sinha will host this. Kolkata based Quizmasters, Nikhil Sarkar and Somnath Chanda will be hosting the penultimate quiz, When Pride Still Mattered, the Open Sports Quiz which will be followed by the final quiz of the event – A Hard Road To Glory, The Barefoot Solo Sports Quiz to be hosted by Aniket Mishra.

Co-founder of Barefoot India Neelesh Saran remarked, “Like all years, we are expecting a huge turnout this time as well. The fact that it’s going to take place in the heart of the University will ensure more and more budding quizzers come up and take part.” He added, “It’s heartening to see the turnout every year. When we started this almost a decade ago, the idea behind it was to get people to know more about sports than they are generally fed by regular newspapers and magazines. The popularity of this festival, which attracts crowds from all over the country, tells me we have possibly been able to achieve some of that. Some of the answers stump me and tell me that people are really developing a genuine interest in reading about sports and knowing about our sporting icons.”

Amit Sinha, quizmaster of the Cricket Quiz and author of the latest Penguin India publication on MS Dhoni, Do Different, said about the quiz, “It’s always a great atmosphere at the quiz with so many quizzers from all over the country around. I’m totally looking forward to this year’s quizzes. Barefoot has developed such a massive following in the past few years and deservedly so as the quality of quizzes have only increased over the years. It’s a heaven for anyone who has a keen interest in sports.”
