A group of Indian and Afghanistan players were involved in knocking and shoving each other following the hosts sealed a 2-1 victory in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata.
Indian team pocketed an imperative 3 points after they defeat Afghanistan 2-1 in a Group D match in Kolkata.
Sunil Chhetri displayed his magic again with a curling free-kick goal (85′), however Afghanistan pulled one back within 3 minutes from a Zubayr Amiri free header (88′) ahead of Sahal Abdul Samad’s superb strike (90+2′) booked the deal for the India.
After losing the game, Afghanistan players showed their frustrations against India.
In a video, widely viral on social media, 3 Afghanistan and 2 Indian players can be seen pushing and shoving ahead of the scuffle escalates.
Nevertheless, Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh tried hard to calm the players from both sides, but he too was knocked by the Afghanistan players.
Seeing the ugly scene, the AFC officials hurried to the ground but the brawl only escalated. It is not known why the fight erupted.
The organising committee of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers has not stated anything about the incidents.
After this victory, Igor Stimac’s men will face Hong Kong in their summit clash of the third round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, with the stakes being high for both sides.
