Why Mumbai Indians Want Arshdeep Singh and What Hardik Pandya Brings to Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians are reportedly close to completing a major player exchange ahead of IPL 2027. Hardik Pandya is set to join Punjab Kings, while Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh is expected to move to Mumbai Indians. The proposed deal involves a direct one-for-one exchange, with no other players included.

Both franchises have reportedly submitted their Expressions of Interest (EOI) under the BCCI’s player trade regulations. Pandya and Arshdeep have also given their written consent to the move. The only remaining step is approval from the BCCI.

The official announcement has been delayed due to holidays in India. However, the Board is expected to complete the formalities soon. Once approved, both players will be registered with their new franchises for the 2027 season.

The BCCI has clear rules regarding player transfers. According to Cricbuzz, the Board states, “Only players whose names are included on an EOI Confirmation and for whom a signed Consent Form has been received by the BCCI may be traded,”

Hardik Pandya to Join Punjab Kings and Arshdeep Singh to Move to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2027 Trade

Mumbai Indians have reportedly identified Arshdeep as an important addition to their bowling attack. The left-arm pacer has established himself as one of India’s leading white-ball bowlers. His ability to swing the new ball and deliver accurate yorkers at the death makes him a valuable option.

Arshdeep could form a strong pace combination with Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. His arrival would also strengthen Mumbai’s options across different stages of an innings.

Meanwhile, Pandya’s move would add considerable experience and all-round ability to Punjab Kings. The Indian all-rounder previously captained Gujarat Titans before returning to Mumbai Indians in 2024. He took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma but could now begin a new chapter with Punjab.

Shreyas Iyer currently leads Punjab Kings. The franchise reached the IPL final in 2025 under his captaincy. Pandya’s experience as a leader and his contributions with both bat and ball could further strengthen the squad.

The financial details of the proposed exchange have not been revealed. However, the trade could become one of the biggest talking points ahead of IPL 2027.
