The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started an internal disciplinary inquiry following reports about the conduct of some players.
The development comes amid reports involving former Test players Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan. However, the PCB has not named either player in its official statement.
PCB media director Amir Mir confirmed that the board was looking into the matter. He said the inquiry was being handled under PCB rules.
“The PCB has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally,” he said.
“The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration,” he added.
Reports claimed that the PCB had obtained data from the mobile phones of Imam and Rizwan. The alleged incident took place during Pakistan’s stay in London.
According to reports, the phones were taken by the team’s security officer after Pakistan’s 194-run loss to England at Lord’s. They were reportedly returned several hours later.
The PCB has not confirmed these claims.
PCB Warns Against Unverified Reports
Mir also urged people not to treat unverified reports as facts.
“At this stage, any speculative reports or unverified claims circulating on certain platforms, particularly those originating from hostile external sources, should not be regarded as credible,” he said.
The PCB has refused to share more details while the inquiry is ongoing. It also said that official PCB communications should be followed for updates.
The development comes during a difficult period for Pakistan’s Test team. Pakistan lost the first Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs.
They then suffered a 194-run defeat at Lord’s. England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The PCB later released seven players from the Test squad. Imam and Rizwan were among them.
Imam’s absence from the Lord’s Test had also attracted attention. He suffered a calf strain while fielding and did not bat in either innings.
Aaqib Javed had called for an inquiry into the matter.
However, the PCB has not revealed the exact nature of its latest investigation.
