India-born cricketers Jerrssis Wadia and Aryan Sharma have received a major boost in their careers after being named in Cricket Australia pathway squads for upcoming assignments.
Wadia has been selected in the Cricket Australia XI squad that will take on the Bangladesh men’s Test team in a three-day match in Darwin. The match will be played from August 6 to August 8.
The South Australian batter has impressed with his performances in Adelaide’s premier cricket competition. He was also part of the Adelaide Strikers squad during the recent Big Bash League season. His selection is another important step in his development.
Aryan Sharma Picked for Australia Men’s Development Squad
Victorian all-rounder Aryan Sharma has been named in Australia’s Men’s Development Squad for the MRF Academy Program in Chennai.
Sharma represented Australia at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. He was also included in the Melbourne Stars squad during the last BBL season. The young all-rounder will now get another opportunity to develop his game against quality opposition.
The Development Squad will play two two-day matches during the MRF Academy Program. The games are scheduled for August 5–6 and August 10–11. Both matches will be played on spin-friendly wickets in Chennai, giving the players valuable experience in subcontinent conditions.
Former Australia coach Tim Nielsen will guide the Cricket Australia XI during the Darwin match against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, former Australia Test captain Tim Paine and Anthony Clark will coach the Men’s Development Squad in Chennai.
The pathway squads include several exciting young players from across Australia. Sam Konstas, Josh Philippe, Kurtis Patterson and Jake Doran are part of the Cricket Australia XI, while Under-19 captain Hugh Weibgen, Jason Sangha, Lloyd Pope and Joel Davies have been selected in the Men’s Development Squad.
The selection of Wadia and Sharma highlights the growing impact of India-born cricketers in Australia’s development system. Both players will now look to impress and move one step closer to earning higher honours in Australian cricket.
