Ryan Reynolds was seen enjoying a FIFA World Cup match in Toronto on Friday while his wife, Blake Lively, dealt with the latest development in her long-running legal dispute with Justin Baldoni.
The actor attended Canada’s World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina. He appeared relaxed and cheerful as he watched the match from the stands. The outing came shortly after a court issued a final ruling related to Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni.
Court Resolves Final Money Dispute
The court recently ruled that Blake Lively is not entitled to receive damages linked to Justin Baldoni’s defamation claims against her. However, she did receive a partial victory, as the court ordered Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer Studios, to cover her legal fees.
The exact amount they will have to pay has not yet been determined. Lively’s legal team is expected to submit details of the hours worked and the rates charged by her attorneys. The court will then decide the final amount.
The legal dispute began after allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation connected to the production of It Ends With Us. The case attracted significant public attention and was expected to go to trial before both sides reached a settlement last month.
As part of that agreement, Baldoni waived his right to appeal the court’s earlier decision to dismiss his $400 million lawsuit against Lively. The settlement did not include any monetary payment to either side.
Lively was still allowed to seek attorney’s fees under a California law that protects alleged victims of sexual harassment from retaliatory defamation claims.
With high-profile attorneys Michael Gottlieb and Esra Hudson representing Lively, the legal bill could be substantial. The court’s latest order closes one of the final remaining issues in the closely watched case.
