Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 31.
The Australian batter was also handed two demerit points for a Level 1 offence. The incident took place during the 10th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings. It happened after Washington Sundar appeared to be dismissed but was later ruled not out.
According to reports, David threw an ice bag aggressively towards on-field umpire Nitin Menon. As a result, he was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The rule relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
David accepted the offence and the punishment imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
David Set to Miss First Match of IPL 2027
The latest offence was David’s third Level 1 breach of the season. He received one demerit point in Match 20 and two demerit points in Match 54. With two more points added after the final, his total reached five demerit points for the season.
As per IPL regulations, David will now miss the first match of IPL 2027. If he remains with RCB, he will be unavailable for their opening game next season.
Despite the disciplinary setback, David enjoyed an impressive IPL 2026 campaign. He scored 305 runs in 15 innings. He averaged 33.89 and maintained a strike rate of 188.28.
His best innings came against Chennai Super Kings when he smashed an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the IPL final, he also played a key role by adding 41 runs with Virat Kohli as RCB chased down the target and secured a five-wicket victory to retain their title.
