Is there a reserve day for GT vs RR Qualifier 2 in IPL 2026?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is nearing its end, with only two matches left in the tournament. On Friday, May 29, Gujarat Titans will face Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Ahead of the big clash, many fans are asking an important question. What will happen if rain washes out the match? Many expected the IPL to keep a reserve day for the knockout game because the final will be played on Sunday, with Saturday available in between.

However, there is no reserve day for Qualifier 2. The IPL Governing Council has not kept an extra day for the match. Match officials can use up to 120 extra minutes to complete the game if rain interrupts play.

If no result is possible even after the extra time, Gujarat Titans will directly qualify for the IPL 2026 final. This is because they finished higher than Rajasthan Royals in the league stage points table. Gujarat ended the season in second place, while Rajasthan qualified in fourth position.

GT and RR shared wins in league stage

Shubman Gill and his Gujarat Titans side reached Qualifier 2 after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 92 runs in Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala. On the other hand, Riyan Parag and the Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the Eliminator in New Chandigarh.

The two teams met twice during the league stage this season. Rajasthan Royals won the first game in Ahmedabad by six runs. Later, Gujarat Titans bounced back strongly and defeated the Royals by 77 runs in Jaipur.

Overall, Gujarat Titans have dominated the rivalry. They have won seven out of 10 matches against Rajasthan Royals in IPL history. Still, previous records may not matter much in a high-pressure knockout game.
